May 20, 2025

Do you want to reduce the appearance of acne or target wrinkles and fine lines? You can experience positive results by adding niacinamide to your skincare routine! Niacinamide is a powerful Vitamin B-3 compound that can be used to target a wide variety of skin concerns. However, it’s important to ensure you use this ingredient correctly.

Below, we’ll discuss when and how to use niacinamide on a daily basis. Keep reading to learn more about this effective ingredient and where to find niacinamide serum and other products from Isomers Skincare!

Why Does it Matter How I Use Niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a calming antioxidant that improves skin barrier function, enhances moisture retention, and effectively targets skin concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation, and visible signs of aging. This ingredient is the everyman of the skincare world—it can mix with all sorts of ingredients, from active AHAS to Vitamin C!

So, why can’t you just toss niacinamide into your skincare routine and call it a day?

Skincare is about more than applying ingredients and hoping for the best—it’s a true science. For products to be effective, they need to be used in a concentrated form according to their strengths.

Niacinamide is an ingredient that can be used at any time of day and combined with many ingredients, but there are still two key factors to keep in mind when adding it to your routine:

One: Niacinamide can be found in serums, moisturizers, and face masks, but they serve different purposes and should be applied accordingly.

Two: Everyone’s skin and complexion are different. An ingredient that is effective for one person may cause irritation and discomfort for others.

Common Niacinamide Faux Pas

It’s easy to use skincare ingredients incorrectly, especially if you're still developing a skincare routine. While niacinamide is a relatively versatile compound, it still requires careful application.

Here are a few common mistakes people make when using this ingredient for the first time:

Applying too high of a concentration: Any concentration above 5% can cause irritation for sensitive skin. To prevent this, start with a lower dose.

3 to 5% niacinamide is clinically proven to drive results in your skin. Concentrations of 10 to 20% can make your skin more sensitive, and this increased dosage has no added benefits.

If you’re using a 10% niacinamide formulation, you can dilute it by mixing one drop of niacinamide and one drop of hyaluronic acid.

Using too much too quickly: ingredients don’t need to be harsh to cause irritation. Your skin needs time to adjust to this new ingredient. Slowly integrate niacinamide into your routine, gradually increasing the frequency of application as you adjust.

Skipping sunscreen: While niacinamide can help protect your skin barrier, SPF is still critical to keep your skin safe from new spots and damage!

How to Add Niacinamide to Your Skincare Regimen

Start slow: Your skin needs time to adjust to any foreign agent that it absorbs, and using too much at once can cause discomfort. You may also not know how your skin will react to certain ingredients, even in small doses.

So, before fully implementing niacinamide into your skincare routine, start with small, concentrated doses, and monitor how this ingredient affects your skin. If you don’t notice any irritation, redness, or other discomfort after 24-48 hours, continue implementing it into your regular skincare routine, building it up gradually.

Always use SPF: Skipping sunscreen is always a no in any routine. While skincare ingredients like niacinamide, Vitamin C, retinol, and many others can help protect your skin, SPF is essential to preventing the damaging effects of the sun.

Be patient: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is your skin health. It will take several weeks before the niacinamide begins to drive results. Apply consistently, and over time, you’ll begin to see a difference in how your complexion looks and feels.
